Blixed

Blix is one of my favorite theme and I always admire the kind of work Sebastian has put into the theme.
With the release of WP 2.1, so many things have changed and I decided to touch up this theme to make it useful to a larger audience.

Now I am presenting you “Blixed”.
Blixed 1.0

Major Changes :
1. Blixed supports “Custom Image Header” in WP 2.1
2. Blixed supports “Sidebar Widgets Plugin”.
Minor changes :

1. Renamed Bx_functions.php to functions.php so that WP automatically loads it.[no need to include it from header.php]
2. Made the navigation to use “wp_list_pages”.
3. changed the style.css to use current_page_item, instead of “selected”.
4. renamed “archives.php” to “page-archives.php”.
5. updated the page-archives.php for WP 2.1 table changes.
6. pages now supports comments too.
7. Added a screenshot.jpg that shows in the Presentation menu, for preview.

Version 1.1 on October 03 2007.

1. Added support for Tags in WordPress 2.3
2. Fixed the Archives Page Template to show the right number of comments for each post.
3. Made the header image to be bigger and wider.
4. Made the overall width of the theme to be 100px wider than the previous version.

great layout and very tasteful color choices. Quick question: I’m kind of new to wordpress. How do I fix the sitename in the header so that the bottom half appears?

Have always loved this theme and been longing for a widgetized version, so was really pleased when I stumbled on this. Great work.

One minor issue, when my list of pages drops to the next line it puts the whole content/post/page area out of whack forcing it to shift (relative?) and also pushes the sidebar menu underneath. Is this a position issue?

Hi, I new to wordpress.org and I’m wondering if you can tell me how I can add the author/username to each entry posted on a Blixed-theme blog with multiple users? Thanks!

Thank you for the new Blix Theme!!! I installed it on WP 2.1, it runs but there is one problem: on the static sites like About there is at the end the comment box - how to hide it?

And there is another thing i’d like to know: is it possible with the sidebar-widget to install a second (left) sidebar - or ist there another way to do it (for an amateur)?

    Greetings from Germany.

    Hello??? Need some help!

  7. adminon Mar 5th 2007 at 9:33 am

    Nick.
Your previous comment was not clear. what do you see on static pages ? where is your website ? can we take a look at it ?

getting another sidebar is not possible unless you change the theme to be a 3 column theme. we cannot offer any support on that.

    Thanks.

Blixed is very nice, but there are a couple of things needed to make it more useable.

Like Verity, I wish that Blixed/Blix would handle things gracefully when the menu items flow onto a second line.

It would also be great to have the sidebar on “page” pages as well on “post” pages.

    Greetings from the UK

    Hello,

Great, the updated Blix them :-)
    I found some problems:

    - I uploaded a custum imge header and it works fine. I click the “Hide Text” option and in the preview the text is hidden, then I save. Sadly the text stays visible online (in firefox win and Mac, in explorer 6 win and safari mac). Of course I can leave the nam blank in the General options page but that txt is used in other ways in the site so that is no solution…

    - When I make more pages so they wont fit in the top bar anymore then the sidebar drops down below the text of the pages.

The header problem is the only thing keeping me from using this theme… It very nice and clean!

    And an other question:

Te page order option seems to fave no effect at all…

    Gerard,
If you want to get the pages list to be sorted by page order, you need to add “sort_column=menu_order” to the call to wp_list_pages() call in header.php

Read more at ” List Pages by Menu Order” at http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/wp_list_pages.

to hide the site title from the header, add this to the end of style.css

    #header h1 {
    display:none;
    }

    Thanks
    Sadish

    Hello,

Thank you for Blixed. The site title in the header looks fine on a Mac, but the bottom part gets cut off in Windows IE. How do I make the space for the site name bigger, so the bottom part of 26 px size characters isn’t truncated? For example, so the lower part of a “g” does not get cut off in Windows.

    Thanks,
    Dave

Thanks for the information on how to hide the site title from the header! I love this design, the colors fit perfect with my site. Great job!

I do have a question about using this theme…I have added a Login and/or register item to the top of the sidebar but for some reason, the header labeled Login, doesn’t show up like the rest of them.

My blog can be viewed at: http://www.tlarsondesign.com/blog

Can anyone offer any help with that?

    Thanks!

    Hi, it is me again.

I have another issue. I added the Subscribe2 to my blog and now if you view the blog without being logged in, the subscribe to blog section appears very weird, like the style of it doesn’t read at all. Can someone please help me with this? I also am still having issues with the above mentioned issue too, from April 29th. I am fairly new at this stuff and would really appreciate it if someone could help me with this.

    Thank you.

  17. traceeon May 4th 2007 at 8:49 am

Please disregard the Subscribe2 comments, I removed it from my blog. Thank you….

But I would still appreciate it if someone could help me with getting the Log in header to show correctly. Although I moved that part to the bottom of the sidebar instead.

    Hi, I got 2 questions:

The font is different from the original version. Is there any way I can change back to the original font?

Half of the header font got cut one. I don’t understand why. How can I fix that? Thanks!

  33. Mattzon Jan 9th 2008 at 3:38 pm

    Hi,

This plugin is very nice !

Has someone already fixed the “hide” button for the site name and the slogan ?

The slogan never takes place, and that is a pitty actually.

Did someone also fixed that you can use the stiped, dotted, etc header backgrounds from muliblix panel when you don’t set your own ?

When you don’t set your own at the moment you get the “header_bg” as default which would be nice if changable.

    thanks.

Hi - (resizing header image question)
First i’d like to thank you for creating this theme.
I’m using it to set up my blog, and have some issues that i couldn’t solve:

    1. I want to replace the default header bkgd image with one of my own, that has a different size (the new imag is 704×200).
I’ve been going up and down the .css files, changed every parameter that seemed remotely connected but didn’t manage to do it -
    Can anyone help?

    2. Thw lower part of the header’s text disappears when the text is too big - is there a way to fix that (i’ve reduced the size for now, but would like to have it bigger)

    Blog URL: http://www.ruthkikin.com/blog/

    Any suggestions will be appreciated…

    Ruth

How do you get the sidebar to show on pages as well?

  38. Zachary Guidryon Apr 8th 2008 at 8:34 am

I have been a long time user of Blix based themes. I was pleasantly surprised to find the “Blixed” site that lead me to your blog today! I also took issue with the small width of Blix, so I created a theme called Blix1000. I increased the width, text size and re-created all of the icons. I also re-vised the “asides” style.

Many people like to start with an existing theme and personalize it. I created a plugin called “MultiBlix” so anyone could have this ability. From the control panel, they can use a color-picker to change colors on the site as well as the header image. I have not tested MultiBlix with the “Blixed” theme, but will soon and hopefully I can add this theme to the others that are compatible!

    Great work!
    Zack
